Brazilian Blow Out FAQs

Brazilian Blow Out FAQS:

Q. Who is the best candidate?
A. Perfect to resolve frizzy hair and for those that use hair straighteners on a regular basis. Suitable for Caucasian, Asian and Afro hair types. For stubborn Afro hair we may recommend a hair texturizing treatment first to soften the hair before proceeding with the Brazilian blow out.

Q. 0.2% formaldehyde vs formaldehyde-free?
A. Mostly this is down to your personal choice. You need to bear in mind that any type of hair treatment is a chemical and is changing the composition of your hair. Formaldehyde-free products are not recommended for customers that have or are looking to have highlights and/or blonde hair.

Q. Do I need to tell my normal hairdresser that I have a Brazilian Blow Dry?
A. Absolutely YES!  Your hairdresser will need to complete a strand test as the composition of your hair will be different to how it was before the Brazilian blow dry.  Plus your hairdresser will need to ensure that they are using shampoos that are FREE from Sodium Chorlide (i.e. salt-free).

Q. Who is the best candidate?

A. Mostly this is down to your personal choice.  You need to bear in mind that any type of hair treatment is a chemical and is changing the composition of your hair.  Formaldehyde-free products are not recommended for customers that have or are looking to have highlights and/or blonde hair.

Q. Can I have a Brazilian Blow Out if my hair is damaged?
A. For hair that is extremely damaged, weak or if you are experiencing hair breakage we will recommend a course of Schwarzkopf FibreClinix treatments to strengthen the hair first. In extreme cases you may require a standalone FibrePlex TM treatment. If you are unsure about the condition of your hair please ask for a free consultation before booking your Brazilian Blow Out.

Q. Can this be applied if I have hair extensions?
A. We advise strongly against this as your hair and the hair extensions are very different and your hair extensions are specially treated by the manufacturer. Sadly there are many inferior hair extensions on the market and it is salon policy not to complete service if you have extensions fitted. They must first be removed and fitted again for at least 7 days post treatment.

Q. What are the benefits of a Brazilian blow out?
A. The hair will be left frizz-free, shiny, manageable with plenty of bounce and movement. After the initial 2 days post treatment and once you have shampooed your hair you have the option to curl or add wave to your hair. You will also notice that you will be able to blow dry your hair in a fraction of the time that it used to take you. We do not guarantee ‘wash & go’ and a good hair care regime is still required.

Q. Will my hair be poker straight?
A. If your hair is wavy you can expect to have straight hair; for very curly and/or Afro hair it will minimise the frizz, especially in humidity but we cannot guarantee straight hair. Some Asian hair can be resistant. Your stylist will be able to advise you accordingly based upon your hair type.

Q. Can I have this treatment with coloured or highlighted hair?
A. Yes. The Brazilian blow out will improve the health of coloured or highlighted hair, sealing the cuticle to help lock in your colour. We recommend that you have a 7-day gap between your Brazilian blow out treatment and colour/highlights service to avoid over-stressing your hair. For best results we recommend your colour or highlights are completed after your Brazilain blow out.

Q. Can I have this treatment if my hair is relaxed or chemically straightened?
A. Yes providing your hair has not been damaged by the relaxer or straightening product. The Brazilian blow out will enhance the look of your hair and give more movement.

Q. Will I lose hair volume post treatment?
A. Some customers report a reduction in volume for the first two weeks post treatment. This is especially true for hair that is fine and/or already straight before having a Brazilian blow out.

Q. Can I go swimming after having a Brazilian blow dry?
A. Yes, but not for the first 2 days post treatment and you must have shampooed your hair in accordance with our after-care instructions before going swimming. The treatment is not affected by chlorine and/or sea water. You should use shampoo and use a quality conditioner after swimming regardless of whether you have a Brazilian blow out. We also recommend using a UVA and UVB leave-in conditioner in sunnier climates to prevent your hair from drying out and colour fade.

Q. Can I tie my hair up post treatment?
A. Not during the first 2 days and your must have shampooed your hair at least once before tying your hair up and using hair accessories

Q. Why is the guarantee only 4-weeks for gents hair?
A. This is because gents hair is generally much shorter and it is typical for gents to wash the hair daily and use more styling products.  Therefore all these factors we know will reduce the life-expectancy of the treatment.  This is reflected in the service price for gents..

Q. Can I use any shampoo and conditioner post treatment?
A. No. You must use salt-free shampoo and conditioner post treatment (i.e. does not contain sodium chloride). At Eds we offer a wide selection and at affordable prices. Purchase your after-care from us within 12 weeks and we will guarantee your Brazilian blow out for 12 weeks (8 weeks for Asian & untreated Afro hair). We recommend shampoo and conditioner by Eds Hair ; Not only will you receive a quality shampoo and conditioner, you will be supporting the Bramhall & Woodford Rotary Club.  Failure to follow our aftercare advice may result in damage to your hair and/or the treatment.
